It’s officially spring! That means that we will soon be enjoying sunshine, warmer days, and beautiful flowers, but with all of the good things that spring brings, many people will also have to deal with seasonal allergies. If you hate having to rely on medication to relieve your sneezing and itching, then it is time for you to turn to the Family Chiropractic Center of Santa Fe. Chiropractic care is a well-known and very effective treatment for allergies, but that isn’t the only thing that you can do! The following is a list from our Santa Fe chiropractor of the top natural ways to fight back this allergy season:
- Neti pot – Although pouring warm water and saline into one of your nostrils may seem foreign, it is actually very effective. Neti pots help to flush allergens out of the nasal cavity, and they are also great for loosening mucus.
- Acupuncture – A recent study has found that acupuncture may be able to help relieve allergies. The participants who got acupuncture had fewer symptoms and used less medication than the participants who didn’t get acupuncture.
- Supplements – There are several natural supplements out there that have been studied for allergy treatment, including eyebright, goldenseal, and spirulina. One supplement that has been shown to be the most effective at reducing inflammation is butterbur.
- Steam – Inhaling steam is a great way to moisten your dry nasal passageways and flush out a lot of that nasty mucus. You don’t have to go to your neighborhood rec center to take a steam, you can do it right at home! Just pour some boiling water into a container, form a tent around your head and the container with a towel, and take deep breaths through your nose several times. Just be careful that you don’t get too close to the water, you don’t want to scald your face!
