There are many things during the holiday season that could trigger depression.

The holidays are supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but many of us spend the season stressing about money, dealing with disagreements within the family and frantically trying to plan big meals or other events. All of these things are triggers for depression. At Family Chiropractic Center of Santa Fe, we are dedicated to helping you enjoy a safe, fun holiday season, and that’s why our Santa Fe chiropractor has come up with these tips for fighting depression over the holidays:

#1. Come up with a budget and a plan.

Sometimes, taking the time to write things down and come up with a plan can really help to reduce your stress. If you want to avoid spending too much money this holiday season, sit down and make a budget, and then plan accordingly. If you have to make presents this year instead of buy them, that’s okay! Also, when you plan out your schedule over the next couple of months, make sure to include time for sleep and relaxation.

#2. Avoid conflicts within your family.

No family is perfect, and if you find yourself arguing or fighting with a particular family member, come up with a few neutral phrases to help you get out of a conflict easily. Phrases like, “Can we talk about this later?” or “I understand where you are coming from.” are good, low-key responses you can use to diffuse the situation.

#3. Visit your chiropractor!

Most people only think of visiting their chiropractor when they have back pain, but studies have shown that chiropractic care has positive effects on symptoms of other issues, like stress, anxiety and even depression.
